Wildly Punny Christmas cards are here!

It's time to introduce the best animal-themed Christmas pun cards on the market. Yep, I'm that confident. The new Wild Lines Christmas pun cards hit the three main marks we are looking for in our holiday cards: they are genuinely funny, completely unique and utterly adorable.

Funny Christmas pun cards

If you’re looking for less traditional Christmas cards this year – cards that veer away from red and gold and offer a more contemporary festive feel – you’ve come to the right place. The brand new Wildly Punny Christmas cards feature an array of unusual animals, from the Christmas koala to the holiday humpback.

Most of the animal pun cards are inspired by Christmas songs. I tried to steer clear of the puns we've all seen before and, by listening to Christmas songs non-stop for two years, uncover the best possible animal-themed Christmas puns that are guaranteed to spark smiles!

I hope that the animal puns will genuinely delight your friends and family this year.

Designing the Christmas pun cards

Each card began with the holiday pun. I have been adding new Christmas puns to a list for actual years. Some are better than others... Here are a few that made it to the sketching stage, but didn't quite make the cut (maybe next year?)

  • Rudolphin the red-nosed... cetacean?

  • Have a holly quolly Christmas

  • Egfrog

  • Rhino-ho-ho-ho

And the award for the most inappropriate Christmas card design goes to: the festive flamin'go

A Christmas card design that didn't make the cut

Moving swiftly on...

If you know Wild Lines, you know that I mostly use art pens to draw in lines and dots – kind of the opposite of flow-y, blend-y watercolour painting. While I use watercolour in a very basic way to add some colour to the Colour Pop cards, I have very little experience with watercolour painting, so it was a daunting – and exciting – new project.

I hand painted each design just a little bigger than they would feature on the cards, added pen lines over the top, scanned them and added the coloured backgrounds digitally. I’d love to hear what you think – would you like to see more cards in this style?

Eco-friendly Christmas card (as always)

As with all Wild Lines cards, the animal pun Christmas cards are as eco-friendly as possible. They are printed on recycled board and packed with recycled kraft envelopes. We post the cards 'naked' to UK addresses (and in compostable sleeves for international orders). All the packaging we use is recyclable and, from the stuffing to the tape, we don't use any plastic materials in your orders.

Step away from the traditional

I hope you agree that it's high time we started mixing things up a bit with our Christmas cards. Nobody wants a whole line of cards featuring robins on snowy postboxes. Not that there's anything wrong with robins on postboxes. I just think that one or two is plenty.

Wild Lines cards are all designed to stand out and make an impression. We’re delighted to hear from customers who choose to frame their cards (or the recipients do!) rather than putting them in the recycling with all the rest. Our Colour Pop Christmas cards jump out from the shelves thanks to the detailed animal pen drawings that are supplemented with bold pops of colourful festive elements.

The new Wildly Punny Christmas collection stands out in a different way. The funny Christmas pun range will help your seasons greetings stand out from the crowd. I bet yours will be the only quokka on their Christmas card display this year.

P.s. (This might make you feel uncomfortable)

Are you ready for my highly controversial top tip for Christmas card giving?

Here it is: Choose a Christmas card for this year and give the same design to everybody you're posting cards to. Choose a different card for the next year and do the same. No more worrying that you might give somebody the same card twice! It might make us feel wildly uncomfortable, and I doubt I'll ever actually take my own advice, but we have several organised customers who do just that and it's hard to argue with their logic.
